The main purpose of birth of Lalita devi was to defeat demon Bhadasur, formed from the ashes of Kama deva, who disturbed God Shiva in his meditation.

But the reason behind this was to wake up lord Siva who can have a child to Maa Parvathi to kill the Demon named Tarakasura. But Shivji unaware of this fact turned Kamdev into ashes with his third eye. Later one of the Pramath Gana made an idol with this ash. Shivji, realizing his mistake starred at the idol and turned it into a great power. This power changed as a demon named "Bhandasura". He tried to conquer this entire creation with his energy. At that time Maa Parvathi took the form of Lalitambika and destroys the demon and blessed him with his previous form of Kamdev. All devatas praised her and accepted as the head of this creation as "Maha Samragni'.
